3.    Brief Introduction To Workshop

 

 

Literature shows an increasing number of medical and other health sciences schools are providing an opportunity for early clinical exposure (ECE) to their students. A variety of methods are described and studies report better learning, student and teacher satisfaction and motivation with ECE 1, 2. 

The rationale for ECE lies in providing relevance to and a context in which the basic sciences can be learnt, and to enhance application of basic sciences in the clinical context. It also gives students a chance to observe professionals and thus imbibe values and behaviors from their real interactions with patients and sensitizes students to their broader role as health professionals. It gives an opportunity for basic science and clinical faculty to collaborate to achieve the common goal of improving students’ learning.

4.    Who Should Attend?  

All who want to improve student learning: Clinical faculty, basic science faculty, program coordinators, deans and head of departments.

 

5.    Intended Outcomes:

In this workshop, the participants through interactive methods

  • will explore and share their experiences with early clinical exposure,
  • will understand the importance and benefits of collaboration between basic science and clinical faculty to improve student learning
  • will learn to develop need-based curricula related to ECE
